A member of the sphingolipid (ceramide) family, it is extracted during yeast fermentation. This leads to the formation of skin-like phytospingosine, the basic building block of ceramide 3. It is then rendered bioavailable through esterification with salicylic acid. The refined ceramide has been shown to improve the quality and quantity of the ageing-relevant skin building block collagen.
